Disappointment

I have been thinking a lot lately about disappointment. Sounds a little depressing when I re-read that sentence, but trust me you won’t need any Kleenex after reading this blog. 🙂 One of my BIG issues I worked on when I was on The Biggest Loser was disappointment. It wasn’t featured a ton, but it was the biggest piece of my puzzle. See, you all know by now how type A I am by nature, and to my detriment I can be pretty controlling. Ah, control….well, I tried to control everything (which is impossible) and it got me to 284lbs at my highest. In my mind I always convinced myself that by keeping such tight control of things I was being “productive” & “driven”. Ha. Ha. Ha. It was a very candid conversation with Bob Harper that really turned my thinking around. He simply said, “You spend so much time and effort trying to keep all these balls in the air…what would happen if you let one of them drop?”. I will tell you that even hearing him say those words made me sweat! Let a ball DROP? That is enough stress to drive me to eating a whole sheet cake alone, but the more I thought about it the more I realized that if I dropped a ball the earth would still turn & I would not die. He challenged me to really spend some time thinking about that concept. As I began to dig into this issue I will tell you that I couldn’t for the life of me come up with a reason why I feared letting go. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks….well, actually that ton of bricks happened to come in the form of Jillian Michaels. She simply said, “Honey, you can’t let go of control because you are terrified of disappointment.” Um, WHAT?? In that moment it became very clear. She was right…I was afraid of disappointment. You know in cartoons when the light bulb turns on…it was like that. I avoided really putting my self out there in my career, relationships, & really life itself to avoid being disappointed. The biggest area where this manifested was in my struggle with weight loss. Don’t get me wrong…I was always on a diet, but I NEVER really tried because that way if I failed it was because I did it half way & wouldn’t be disappointed. In my mind disappointment = weakness & failure. Whew….that’s a mouthful.

Have I fixed all this? I’ll say that I have made HUGE strides, but it’s a work in progress. I find myself at times trying to control things & I have to step back and adjust. The joy in that is the awareness…it’s half the battle right? Also, I look at disappointment in a very different way. I no longer fear it…do I like it…no, but who does? That being said I look at disappointment as an opportunity to overcome. If I set a goal & fall flat on my face…I allow myself to take a moment & be disappointed, but then get up brush myself off & set a new goal. You know why? Well, if you fall or fail the earth keeps on turning & you won’t die. Trust me…Bob said so. By getting up it gives you one more chance to achieve, and I just love that.

Olivia

Do you struggle with disappointment? How do you overcome? Let’s chat about it in the comments! 🙂

Ode to Ms. Sweeney

So, this post is not going to came as a surprise to anyone or provide any new information.  That being said we had to push forward and post anyway.  Hannah & I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Alison Sweeney!!! See, I told ya…no new information here. 😉

Biggest Loser filming in New Zealand 2011

Most people know Ms. Sweeney is the hostess with the mostest on NBC’s The Biggest Loser.  She is the person who brings the twists & turns…& at times keeps the peace.  BUT, that is such a small piece of the role she plays on the show.  Behind the scenes to all the contestants she is the mother, caregiver, advocate, therapist, mediator, & most importantly: friend.  No matter what she ALWAYS has the contestants’ best interest at heart.  I can’t tell you how many times she would come & hang out with us during long shoots…even when it was freezing & she had a nice toasty trailer just waiting for her.  If we were freezing…she was freezing.  While we were at the ranch she reached out to many of our families on FB/Twitter so they would feel a part of the process.  After the confetti falls at the end of a season you would think a celebrity of her stature would move on to the next bunch.  I can tell you truly she continues to keep in touch with all of the Biggest Loser Alumni…in her eyes we are a family.

Way BEFORE Biggest Loser 2003

Yes, the trainers are one of the most important elements of the show & they are highlighted as such…as they should be.  I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that Hannah & I wouldn’t have been nearly as successful on the show had Alison not been there.  Her piece of the puzzle goes way beyond…”your current weight is…”

Alison, we love you…you are the best!  Congratulations on your new show “Hollywood Girls Night“…we will all be watching!!  We look forward to many more years of friendship & family!!

Love,
Your Purple Sisters

Obsession Confession: True Lemon

True Lemon with Iced TeaHello Beauties & Gents!

Welcome to your latest Obsession Confession! Well I have to say, I’m not one of those people that can eat the SAME thing everyday. Let’s face it, it’s boring and you feel deprived and deprivation leads me to The Cheesecake Factory so I like to switch things up. But, as a single traveling girl I need portable things I can throw in my suitcase….

Enter True Lemon and cue the angelic music…ahhhhhhhhh! It was a stormy Saturday afternoon and a bright, yellow, sunny box arrived.

True Lime

I opened the box and an array of true lemon products arrived! Lemon, lime, and orange shakers, drink mixes, recipes all made naturally!

As most of you know I’m a Southern gal and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my tea! So I always order unsweet tea (no more sugar) with lemon or I make my own, but I can’t tell you how many times my lemons go bad!! (why does that sound like I’m talking about my chest?) Anywho, I put it in my tea with my stevia and it was just like real lemon!! It was amazing. Then I tried one of the water packets (raspberry lemonade) and mixed with my water. It was amazing, no artificial taste and it was light and refreshing! True Lemon has so many products: orange, lemon, lime and more. You can use the shakers in liquids and also to season your food! I have used the lemon on fish and the lime on tuna and the orange in my fruit salad! I love a multipurpose product that I can carry on the go and travel with! I give true lemon two thumbs up!! They even come with recipes on the packaging!!!

Have you tried it?

New Series: Obsession Confessions

Hello Loves!!!! So, Hannah & I have been wanting to start this Series on the blog for some time now. As you know from our Facebook & Twitter, Hannah & I have a tendency to become “obsessed” with things we love. It could be a new lipstick, a pair of socks, or a new workout class. In addition to things we stumble upon we also are so blessed to have companies send us awesome things to try. Some we end up loving…others we don’t. Sooooooo… we now want to share these things with you!! We will not only review our new obsessions, but we will show you how & where to get it. Sometimes these companies will even allow us to pass along discounts & specials! I mean who doesn’t LOVE a discount?

Now, here are a few things you can ALWAYS count on. First, we will never be anything but 100% honest with you. We always disclose to you what we buy with our own money & what was gifted to us by companies. Second, we are only going to review stuff we love. For instance, you might find us reviewing one of the better peptide company because we trust in its potential. There is enough negative stuff in life…let’s just celebrate the good stuff. We feel this is an opportunity to not only bring you some solid reviews, but also expose new upstart companies as well. That doesn’t mean we won’t tell you about the big company products as well…it will be a mixed bag! 🙂

Also, let us know products YOU love! Leave your suggestions in the comments…we are always open to trying new things…AND this blog is for you too, so we want to showcase things you’re interested in too! Fun right?? Ok, so let’s get this started!!!!!

xo,

Olivia & Hannah
