Olivia’s Breakfast Tour

Hi lovelies!!!  I know this has taken WAY too long to post….but, better late than never. J  After many requests Hannah and I decided to film some of our “typical” meals throughout the day.  Up first…Breakfast!

We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Even if my day gets crazy I know I’ve given myself the best beginning with a healthy breakfast with my family, always do the same for my husband and for my one year old baby, he eats the same as we do and at this age boys start talking so he asks me for our healthy snacks at breakfast.

Here are the ingredients you will need for this recipe:

1 cup egg whites (or as many as you want from separated eggs)
3 Tbsp chopped white onion
1 cup chopped baby bella mushrooms
½ cup sliced grape tomatoes
1 cup baby spinach
cooking spray of your choice
1 cup sliced berries

Let us know what you think of these types of “cooking” videos.  If you all like them we can do more!  Hannah and I both LOVE to cook and would love to share more recipes and tips with you.  Also, let me know what you eat for breakfast…I’m always looking for new ideas!  Stay tuned for what’s next….LUNCH!

Health and Happiness!

Life is GOLDEN!!

Ok, who is LOVING watching the Olympics this year??  Don’t get me wrong…I love it EVERY year…what’s not to love about hot boys in swim gear? Right??  Ahem. 🙂  Moving on.  One of my favorite events is always women’s gymnastics.  It has been my favorite since I was a little girl.  I have such vivid memories of Mary Lou Retton winning the gold…it made me want to be a gymnast…for about 5 minutes.  Plus, as most of you know I am a giant…not a good quality in a gymnast…those ladies are pocket sized!

Last night watching the women’s team USA win the gold was so moving and inspiring.  These girls have worked so incredibly hard for their ENTIRE life for that moment in time.  Being able to be a part of that victory was just awesome.  I found myself cheering and jumping up and down in my living room…now, the people in the apartment below me… I don’t think were as excited as I was! 🙂

As inspiring as winning the gold was for these ladies…that was not what moved me most.  I was completely blown away by one young lady…Jordyn Wieber.  From the very first step she took onto the gym floor I was completely mesmerized.  I literally couldn’t take my eyes off her.  I’m sure I wasn’t alone.  For those of you that live under a rock or don’t like the Olympics (what’s wrong with you?? Did I mention HOT BOYS IN TINY SWIM GEAR??)   So, going into these Olympic games Ms. Wieber was ranked number one in the world in women’s gymnastics.  She was EVERYONE’S pick to win the gold in the women’s all around event.  After a decent showing of rotations the other night she found herself edged out of the women’s all around qualifications.  She was beat out by two of her other teammates and did not earn a spot to compete.  CAN YOU IMAGINE???  You spend your entire life training to make it to that competition and you just barely fall short.  How do you recover from something like that.  I can’t even imagine the disappointment and sadness!!  It wasn’t like she royally messed up…she just didn’t have her best night.  Not to mention she had to turn around the NEXT day and compete with her team!!  If it were me I would still want to lie in bed with my dozen cupcakes in my pj’s…let’s be honest.

I have to say what I couldn’t get over was her countenance….our faces NEVER lie.  You can try to hide disappointment, but in the end your face will ALWAYS give you away. I’ll admit I’m the worst at broadcasting what I feel with my face…I just can’t hide it.  The only exception to that is when I play poker…I give GREAT poker face.  Where is Lady Gaga when you need her?  teehee!  Back to Jordyn.  Her face was radiant…it was lit from deep inside.  There was not an ounce of disappointment or jealousy….just peace.  It moved me to tears.  Literally.  What amazing maturity and inner strength she must have.  To step out in that arena after possibly the biggest disappointment in her life knowing that everyone was watching.   All I kept thinking is…I WANT THAT.  I want to remember this moment and learn from her.   She gave an amazing performance and proved to the world why she was ranked number one in the world.  She is a champion both inside and out.

For me this lesson couldn’t have come at a better time.  It’s an important piece of the puzzle for me.  How do you not just deal with disappointment, but how do you move on? It’s about accepting what you can’t change…learning from it and then stepping forward.  The kicker is not just stepping forward, but stepping forward with peace and contentment.  That’s HARD!!  It was so obvious to me that she is one of those people who believes that things happen for a reason.  I’m a big believer in that principle.  I personally believe that my steps are ordered…no matter what happens.  All things work together for good.  Of course I know that doesn’t always mean it will happen the way I want it…or in the time frame that I think is best.  In the end if I submit to my strong belief that He will order my steps, I can handle any disappointment and move forward with peace and contentment knowing that something golden might just be around the corner.  It’s not about the disappointment…it’s about what you do AFTER!

Are you enjoying the Olympics??  What did you think about how Jordyn Wieber handled everything?  What is your favorite event?  I’m reading comments today, so let’s chat below!!

XOXOXO

Olivia 🙂

PS…I can’t wait for women’s Olympic Lifting today…I want to see how Holley Mangold does. 🙂

Setbacks

So, yesterday I was at Crossfit212 (I know surprise, surprise)…and the WOD was the type that I usually KILL. Anything with Olympic lifting in it I not only love, but I have found it to be something I excel at. Anyway, I was feeling good & working up to my “working weight” for the WOD on the deadlift. The actual workout consisted of 3 deadlifts, 6 one legged squats, & 9 dead hang pull ups…as many rounds of that as possible in 12 minutes. The prescribed weight for the deadlift for women was 185 pounds. Now, the awesome thing about Crossfit is you can modify anything!! Most of the women were lifting much lower weight. BUT, of course you all know me so well by now to know that I was going to do the prescribed 185 pounds. Usually that weight is not too heavy for me. However, yesterday it just was too heavy. I ended up doing the WOD, but only lifting 165 pounds. Instead of really embracing the workout at 165 pounds all I could see was a setback. Sigh.

After leaving Crossfit I started really thinking about setbacks. We find them in ALL aspects of life, but they are especially hard with weight loss. These emotions that were bubbling up inside really reminded me of a certain setback I had at the ranch. It was a couple months into being at the ranch & I was approaching a number on the scale that I had NEVER been able to overcome. Never. I just had decided that like every other time I had tried to get over that hump this time would be no different & I was going home. Jillian, & her super powers of discernment picked up on this immediately. She pulled me aside during a workout & said “Pookie, (she has AWESOME pet named for everyone) what’s going on?” I began to share with her my fears about the impending setback. Jillian simply looked at me and said, “What’s wrong with you? Don’t you believe in science? More importantly…Do you not believe in me?” I stood there with my mouth on the floor. What did my possible setback have to do with science? AND why on earth would she think I didn’t believe in her? She is superwoman mistress of the universe in my eyes. Per usual I dropped in a puddle of tears. She hugged me and looked into my eyes & said, “You are doing everything right…you are eating on point & putting in the work in the gym. Trust your body…it’s science and it will let the weight go. Let me believe in you while you’re not strong enough to do it alone. When you are strong enough to believe in yourself again I’ll give it back to you.”

Amazing…simply amazing. That was the week I not only overcame a number on the scale, but I also lost 16 pounds.

Ok, now what does that have to do with my setback at Crossfit? I was brought back to that moment because I needed reminding that it’s all a process. Our bodies are not machines…when it comes to weight loss 2+2 doesn’t always equal 4. Sometimes it adds up to 1.5…sometimes it’s 16!!!! The point is progress WILL happen you just have to believe in yourself & trust in the science. That’s what I’m doing…I’m believing in myself & trusting that if I continue to train faithfully the next time deadlifts come around in a workout I’ll be lifting 185…no problem!

Lastly, (I know this has turned into a novel) Jillian also gave us this tip: don’t concentrate so much on the number each week…average your weight loss over the month. Especially us ladies…our bodies fluctuate with water etc throughout the month. If you are keeping on point with everything, you will be amazed at how consistent you are month to month.

How do you handle setbacks?? Are you a glass half full or half empty person?? Let me know in the comments…I’ll be checking back in to answer questions in the comments tomorrow morning. Let’s chat!!

XXOO,

Olivia

Ps. If you are not strong enough to believe in yourself yet…I got your back. I’ll hand it back over to you when you’re ready!
