Here’s another Encouraging Words video (the first one was about FAITH). This one deals with REST. It’s so easy to sidestep it and sacrifice it to things that seem more important…but that’s not a good recipe! We need it. Take it. Drink it in. It will make your workouts, your eating, your relationships, and just about every other area of your life better and more healthy. Here’s a link to the YouTube playlist for the Encouraging Words series.
Maybe you need a nap…RIGHT NOW!!! Well, do you?? 😉

Word today is “peace.” In today’s world it is hard to find. The Boston Marathon bombs are an example but we give up peace all the time by thinking we are in control. I give it up by getting frustrated when I don’t live up to my expectations or when others don’t. Peace goes along with rest. It is about resting in the knowledge that we don’t have to have all the answers, do everything perfect, because God knows it all. It’s about giving up the idea that we have to be in control of everything. For a type A personality, that is hard to do, but … Well, I was going to say that I am “working” on it. But the better response is probably part of the chorus of a children’s song. “He’s still working on me, to make me what I ought a be…. don’t judge me yet, there’s an unfinished part, ’cause He’s still working on me.”
Rest is so important. I try to make sure I sleep at least 8 hours a night and pay attention when my body is feeling run down and in need of a little more rest than usual.
I have recently (as in the past few months) discovered the importance of rest. Until last Fall, I worked 3 jobs, had 2 volunteer commitments, and tried to have a social life. I never had a day off, and I was exhausted! But in September I decided to go down to 1 job and 1 volunteer commitment, and I picked one day to have off every week (Sunday, for the record). Now I call Sunday my empty shelf, which, if you’ve read The Happiness Project, you’ll understand. I try my hardest not to make any plans for that day so I know that I’ll get at least one day every week to relax and unwind. Best decision ever!
